Dj SMALLZ

E.O.A. Were Are you from?
I was born overseas in Japan when my father was stationed in the
military. I moved to Florida when I was 3 years old and been here
ever since. I’m 23 years old now and presently reside in Tampa, Fl.
The majority of hip hop music I listened to was southern hip hop
music, so naturally when it came time to DJ I would break the newest
and hottest southern hip hop music.
E.O.A. So when did you start dj’ing?
Back around late middle school, early high school i got into it after
i saw DJ Scribble on MTV rock a crowd on a Spring Break show
E.O.A. What was you first set of turntables?
Ive used so much equipment i honestly don’t remember – i think they
were a type of Numarks
E.O.A How did you get your name Souther Smoke out there? Tell us how
your grind began.
My head was really into school. I got a scholarship to college and
everything. I was DJin’ as a hobby ever since middle school and I was
ready to get my club game poppin in high school. The first southern
smoke CD was really a demo for me to get into clubs. It was the
hottest southern music put together, mixed by me. People passed the CD
around in high school and clubs, word of mouth spread and one thing
led to another. That’s how the southern smoke movement really began.
E.O.A. We heard about your radio show, how did you come about that
solid opportunity to broadcast?
Sirius Satellite Radio recognized my grind and i got with them early
when they first came out
E.O.A. We know there is a laundry list of people whom you have hosted
mixtapes for, can you name a few favorites?
Like I said earlier, it all began as a demo CD to get me into the
local club circuit. My first major host was on volume 6 with hip hop
pioneer Uncle Luke of 2 Live Crew. Uncle Luke is a living legend and
the reason why albums today carry the parental advisory sticker he
fought for his lyrics! It was crazy and exclusive Uncle Luke had
never hosted a mixtape before and I got him out to do it. I’ve got a
lot of history with my hosts. T.I. and C.Murder hosted a Southern
Smoke behind bars. When Pimp C (of UGK) got out of jail, I was the
only CD he hosted. Master P never hosted anyones either except for a
Southern Smoke as well.
E.O.A. Your well respected globally as one of the best street Dj’s ,
in the begining did you ever think that this would have been the
outcome of your hard work?
Never
E.O.A.What type of equipment do you use?
I’m Pioneere-ed out! I use CDJ-1000 mk2s and a DJM-800 mixer and on
the laptop i use Serato.
E.O.A What is the most memorable dj seesion/show that still sticks with you?
Any show overseas – i get so much love out there – Shouts to everyone
in Japan, Canada, Switzerland, Germany and Austria
E.O.A. Are there any greats out there dj’s or music artist that have
inspired you?
DJ Clue – the godfather of mixtapes. When I first came into the game,
mixtapes weren’t even a movement down South, it was an east coast
thing. DJ Clue really helped make mixtapes commercial, especially be
establishing a DJ Clue album (“The Professional” series) that you
could go cop at major chain retail store like a Best Buy or Wal-Mart.
So I definitely looked up to Clue when I tried to establish that
similar formula down south.
E.O.A.Is there an inspiring words that you would like to leave for
inspiring up and coming artist?
Be creative and think outside the box. Everyone seen how successful
Soulja Boy was with YouTube, because it never had been done before -
now everyone has a YouTube, its saturated. Be creative and think
outside the box!
E.O.A. Is there anything that you would like fans to know about you
that we did npt cover?
I’m currently working on my Southern Smoke album, an incredible
compilation featuring your favorite artists and producers – single on
the way. My artist development brand Fear Factor Music Group is a
serious movement in the streets right now, breaking new music and new
artists such as Yo Gotti and OJ Da Juiceman. I got the internet goin’
nuts with the hottest video on demand service in south at
SouthernSmoke.tv and speaking of the internet, don’t forget to check
out my official website DJSmallz.com. If you need to contact me for
anything: mixtape hosting, beats, or breaking your music send me a
message on DJsmallz.com – that’s the best way to get at me. Big shout

1. What’s separates yourself from other artist?
Well I would like to think that no one else can tell you my story better then I can so that in itself separates me from anyone else. Besides that I feel that unlike many artists out there today, I am one of the few who truly believe in the culture of it. I represent something that is lost these days and I really love music. Many artists come into the game for all the wrong reasons but as for myself I just enjoy the art of creating.
2.Were are you from?
Whenever someone asks me that I always reply “New York”. This is my place of birth, my hometown, my territory but if you want specifics I live in Harlem. Grew up in Bronx as a Teenager and then moved out here around 17. Been here ever since.
3.Who are you? What Is your movement about?
I am just like you at the end of the day. Nothing really separates me from anyone else in the sense that we are all the same and that’s the ideology I represent. I speak for the everyday person, not the millionaires or elitists. I’m in tune with the issues, lifestyles and concerns of the people and I touch on it often in my music. I love people and that’s what I try to make clear in my songs.
4.How would you catagorize your style?
I would it’s very organic. I really feed off of the energy around and that’s evident when you hear the music. This is also a big reason why I try to surround myself around positive people because it rubs off on you. When I create music I like to really just give off good vibes, even when I’m talking about something negative. I’m also a story teller, I love to paint a picture for the audience. I believe my music is very authentic and true to myself.
5.When did you start doing music?
I started to take music seriously in the beginning of 06. Before then I would freesttyle alot and not really pursue it because I didn’t think it was plausible but not I live, breath and exude music. Its my life.
6.What artist have influenced you?
It depends on the moment and era. Growing up I was just a fan so the Biggie’s, Nas’s, Jay Z’s of my time were always in my ear. Nowadays though I’m more inspired by my peers then anything. I love to see artists such as myself on the rise because it is inspiring to watch. I love to listen and see them perform more then established artists. A good example would be SXSW, instead of going to see someone like Kanye I checked out Asher Roth because its artists like that who inspire me honestly.
7.What projects have you worked on?
As of now I have 6 official projects under my belt including m debut titled “Minute After Midnight” which is available on all online retailers. Besides my own projects though I have been apart of hundreds of different mixtapes, albums, ep’s, etc. and the bottomline is that i love to keep music out there. If I had my own studio I would probably be on like my 15th project by now. I write that much.
8.Were do you see yourselfs in 5 years?
Who knows in all honesty? I just hope where ever I’m at it where I want to be.
9.Is there an Artist/Producer whom you would love to work with?
All I care about is good music so it doesn’t matter who I work with really just aslong as the song comes out dope. I’m actually going to start cutting down my collabs though because some artists just don’t take it as serious as I do in my opinion and its a waste of my time. I just like to make dope music, plain and simple.
10.What is your overall view as music as a whole?
I think that this time period is an exciting one. I believe that we are going through a renaissance of sorts and most of the music that’s being created is pure. I love it and think the future is looking bright right now.
11.What has been the most major project that you have been involved with up to this point of your career?
I would have to say my debut album. It was Executive Produced by Dame Grease and got me in The Source Magazine, On MTV, the Radio, etc. and was all over the Internet. I really am proud of that album and hold it dear to my heart.

DunnDeal Records (WorldWide) Inc. Artist Craig Bass
Current Client
Craig Bass is a diverse recording artist hailing out of Virginia Beach VA. way of Honduras.
Born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, September 9th. In 1996 he moved to the US and from the age of six had an interest in music. By age 14, with a radio and cassette tape, he was able to record his own music.
At the start of his high school career, music became more than just a hobby. He began showing fellow peers his lyrics. He received nothing but positive feedback and this made him eager to gain more musical knowledge. At age 16, he borrowed his friend’s keyboard, and taught himself how to play piano. A few months later, he bought his first synthesizer keyboard. He started recording on CDs, as he posted tracks onto Myspace.com. A few weeks later, he and a couple other local undiscovered artists went to a Talib Kweli signing and he handed him a copy of his beats. Even though he received no feedback from Talib, he met a fellow artist by the name of Lyrical Flamez. That summer, from his association with Lyrical Flamez he was able to enter a beat battle in the 7 Deadly Cities competition. Being the only under aged competitor, he managed to place 3rd out of 6 local producers. This only brought more motivation to his purpose.
By winter, he gained a little recognition from a local independent label, Electic Haze Records. He made his first mix tape appearance as track 13 on a 4th Electric Haze compilation album which also featured songs from artist such as Kanye West, J-Dilla, Murs, and RaeKwon of the Wu-Tang Clan. From this point, he started collaborating with various artists from around the country such as Sincere from Houston, TX, Nomatic from NY, A-1 from Los Angelos, CA, Jimmi Stone from Seattle, WA, Lyrical Flamez, EJ, and Elz the Genius from Virginia Beach, Va, Sketch from VA, and his most frequent collaborator, Youngs from Chicago, Ill.
His musical talent continued to grow as he started recording songs of his own. He recorded his first legit song in November of 2008, titled “Turning Circles”, he was able to get uprising artist, Cali Stylz, to listen to the song. Cali nodded his head to the beat and stated he envisioned a perfect video to the song. He labeled it “fresh”, “something different”, and “creative and innovative”. He offered to show it to other artist from his label if he had Bass’ consent. Bass quickly agreed, as Cali also offered him a spot on his Independent label Writers Ink Records.
A few months pass, and Bass kept been working on many projects when he received a call from Cali Stylz, letting him know that everything is set to be put into motion. He rushes into the studio that day and recorded his first single to his first EP “The Music Theory”, the track was titled “Drivers Seat”. On the 9th of January Craig Bass dropped his first EP “The Music Theory”. His next project will be the second part to the
“Theory” EP’s “The Sample Theory” which is due out April. He currently just wrapped up recording sessions for his LP being released under the Writers Ink label, the LP is titled “Bass Law”. The first single off the album will be titled “The Math” produced by Los Angeles production team XnRT. He plans on continuing his ventures in the music business, after his first LP drop, either as an artist, producer, or preferably a songwriter.
